UD Trucks Releases All-New Condor PK/PW Series

UD Trucks Corporation (formerly Nissan Diesel Motor Co., Ltd.) announced the nationwide sales launch today of the all-new Condor PK (9-ton class payload) and Condor PW (12-ton class payload). The new trucks received a new cab design that expresses a unified family identity with the Quon heavy-duty truck series along with the nimble maneuverability characteristic of medium-duty trucks and achieves outstanding aerodynamic performance, safety and comfort. In addition, the new Condor models share the same axle parts and brake parts with the Quon heavy-duty truck series to construct suspension and brake systems for enhanced peace of mind. Powering the Condor models is the self-developed GH7 engine equipped with a newly developed common rail system with a higher maximum fuel injection pressure with output of 280 hp. For the first time, the Condor series is now fitted with the UD Particulate Cleaning (UDPC) system and a urea selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system. These emission control technologies for reducing particulate matter (PM) and nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions were previously refined on the Quon heavy-duty truck series. As a result, the new Condor models deliver better fuel economy combined with improved environmental performance that complies with Japan's 2009 exhaust emission regulations.

Hino’s SS 2848 and SS 2848 High Roof are now offered with the overdrive version of the ZF AS-Tronic 16-speed automated manual transmission behind the proven E13C Hino 13-litre inline six cylinder engines that deliver 353kW at 1800rpm and 2157Nm of torque at 1100rpm. The intelligent ZF AMT transmission provides true two-pedal automated operation with all clutch operations and gear shifting being controlled by the transmission. The inclusion of the ZF AS-Tronic is part of the significant product upgrades of the 2010 Hino 700 Series model line-up. The gear selector lever has positions for single and two-gear up-shifts or down-shifts. The ZF AS-Tronic transmission is 2600Nm-capable and in the Hino 2848 AMT the ZF Intarder 2 integrated transmission retarder is fitted as a standard specification. Gentle brake modulation is made possible by five brake levels.

Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation today launched the latest version of its Canter Eco Hybrid light-duty truck in Japan. While significantly reducing carbon dioxide emissions, the latest version increases fuel economy to about 11.6 km/liter (2-ton truck) by optimizing the program of the hybrid control unit. This makes the Canter Eco Hybrid the most fuel efficient hybrid truck in Japan in the 2-ton class. Now sales of the Canter Eco Hybrid have exceeded 900 units since launch, including sales outside Japan in London, Ireland, Australia and Hong Kong. The Canter Eco Hybrid installed with a VG turbo engine 4M42(T3) (96kW/130ps) comes also with superior drivability in combination with its 2-pedal INOMAT-II mechanical automated transmission.

The New Breed Granite, installed with a Cummins Westport ISL-G gas engine, is the only concrete agitator that reduces particulate matter (soot) by 92% and nitrous oxides by 90%, compared with current Australian legislative requirements (US04)1. In fact, it is the first concrete agitator to meet US EPA 2010 emission levels, not expected to be a requirement in Australia until 2016. The truck was commissioned by Boral as the next generation of Hippy Trucks – powered by natural gas.

Dean Bestwick, General Manager Mack Trucks, said this world-first achievement started out as a desire by Boral to provide the next generation of environmentally friendly gas trucks – thereby establishing a strategic leadership position for both companies. “Engineered, designed and built in our Australian factory at Wacol, this highly productive heavy-duty concrete agitator, boasts a globally unequalled exhaust emission output. It’s testament to our local innovation and engineering capability,” he said. Shane Graham, Boral’s General Manager, ACM Concrete, said the truck has just finished a four week trial in Sydney where it matched the carrying capacity of the other vehicles in the fleet and has already proven to be a cost effective transport solution.

The all-wheel drive system OptiTrack is being given its world premiere presentation in Hanover too. Based on a "conventional" Premium Lander 4x2, this version offers temporary 4x4 transmission - together with all its advantages - only when it is really needed, avoiding the disadvantages of all-wheel drive which reduces payload and increases consumption. With OptiTrack, Renault Trucks offers a solution providing 490 kg of additional payload while at the same time reducing consumption (compared with a conventional 4x4) by up to 10%. The OptiTrack solution also includes a number of world firsts: total hydraulic system compatibility with the Optidriver+ robotised gearbox and all forms of power takeoff, plus activation of the OptiTrack function by simply pressing a button on the dashboard, when rolling or stationary.
