Highlander-K - the new russian MRAP
Highlander-K is an armored vehicle on a chassis of KAMAZ-4326. Highlander-K was developed by a group of companies "Technic" on the order of Russian Interior Ministry. Main requirements in the design were an enhanced mine protection for the crew, availability of using on a mountainous terrain, unification of components with production vehicles to reduce the cost. Ie the main concumers of the car will be units of MVD Russia in the North Caucasus.
Armored vehicle was designed to transport personnel and cargo with protection from damaging factors of small arms and explosives. The cabin and bodywork protected by the 5th class. Highlander-K is based on a KAMAZ-4326 cabover chassis, but the developers have managed to make the engine compartment a little forward, that has provided so-called "two feet of life". This is largely predetermined the shape of the car. That car design with its sharp downward bonnet line caused many discussions. Developers explained this decision by saying that such a line of the hood improves visibility of the road directly in front of the car and, therefore, facilitate the work of the driver in mountains.
According to the developers, the undermining of the vehicle was in an area about a side hatch hinged ladder. It is noteworthy that this sample was tested, after which it was repaired and sent to the exhibition.
