How to make Mercedes Sprinter from the Ford Transit? Let's ask Chinese
Chongqing Lokon Light Auto Co., Ltd., the manufacturer of Vellome automobile, was founded in July, 2009 and started producing trucks only from August 2011. Few days ago the company has introduced the light truck 夏特利 (Xia Teli) K01, which looks like the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter of the last generation. But the Chinese were not the Chinese, if not able to make a sweater out of a skirt! Look closely, this truck is based on an old Ford Transit design from the 90s, which was produced in China not so long ago. Unfortunately, the interior was taken from Transit, but not from the Sprinter. The trucks are equipped with a 2.8-liter engines JMC 4JB1 with a capacity of 112 hp, gathered on Isuzu technology, and a 5-speed manual transmission Dangba, which allows "MerceFord" to accelerate up to 160 kph. The company has already prepared a whole range of these vehicles - from all-metal vans to chassis with single or twin-row cabins. How viable would be this hybrid only time will tell.
