Weight reducing for Freightliner Cascadia
Freightliner Trucks showcased its Cascadia models that feature lightweight spec’s and fuel efficient options at the MATS 2011. The Cascadia’s lightweight options include the powerful Detroit Diesel DD13® engine with the Detroit Diesel BlueTec® 1-Box™ Configuration, with a new ArvinMeritor aluminum carrier for the M-14X tandem rear axle; Steelite X30 brake drums; Hendrickson STEERTEK/AIRTEK axle and suspension; 11 1/8-inch Aluminum frame rails and aluminum air tanks; Michelin X One® rear tires and Alcoa forged aluminum wheels; and SAF-HOLLAND 12-inch aluminum air slide fifth wheel.
Optional aerodynamic enhancements designed and tested in Freightliner’s custom-built wind tunnel, include next generation chassis side fairings and 20-inch side extenders which further contribute to the Cascadia’s leadership position in fuel economy. These enhancements on display at the Mid-America Trucking Show provide up to 1.8 percent fuel economy improvement over current 72-inch raised roof models.
