In 1990, the updated military 5-ton truck DAF YA 5444 came to replace the DAF YA 5441/YA 5442. It is based on the civil models 1600/1800. The 4x4 trucks got a 6-cylinder DAF DNT620 diesel with a capacity of 6240 cm3 and power of 180 hp. Wheelbase is 4050-4030 mm. Overall dimensions — 8200x2500x3000 mm. Curb weight — 8400 kg.
The same year DAF supplied 200 YA 5444 trucks to the army of the Netherlands. They were also made small quantity of container trucks, tippers and trucks with a crane (YA 5444 ALK).
