Xos » ET-One
Californian start-up Thor Trucks has developed the ET-One, a purely electric-powered truck that targets the Tesla Semi.
A team of only 18 people worked on the truck of the future. The company was founded by Dakota Semler, the son of a freight forwarder, and his classmate Giordano Sordoni.
Because the small team can not develop everything themselves, the choice of a base fell on a conventional truck chassis from the Navistar Group. This is equipped with heavy-duty axles made by Dana. The electric motor comes from the TM4, which already supplies the motors for various other electric vans, buses and trucks.
The cabin of the Thor ET-One has been aerodynamically optimized and is therefore reminiscent of the Tesla Semi. The power of the electric motor is between 300 and 700 hp depending on the configuration, the maximum torque should be up to 6,400 Nm. Power transfers through a one-speed transmission.
The payload of the Thor ET-One is around 36 tonnes. The range should be 300 miles (about 480 kilometers). A version with a 100-mile radius of action (160 kilometers) will be launched later. Lithium-ion batteries use cells made by LG Chem. The energy storage is housed left and right of the main frame under the side panels. The charging time should be around 90 minutes.
By 2018, the first ready-to-drive prototypes will be ready for test drives. From 2019, the Thor ET-One should then go into production. The price ranges from $150,000 to $250,000, depending on the size of the battery.
