DAF » YA 328
DAF YA 328 — is a medium-duty 3-axle military truck which was produced for the Dutch army since 1952 to 1958. At the end of 1951, DAF received the government order for 175 million guilders (the old monetary unit of the Austrian Empire) to supply 3 types of military vehicles: YA 126, YA 328 and YA 314/324.
After the testing of 2 prototypes DAF YA 318 and 298 pre-production models, DAF began deliveries of serial YA 328 in 1952, made 4510 copies till 1958. The model got a nickname 'Fat DAF' thanks to the body shape. The range of models included artillery haulers (1080 copies), trucks with a winch (699 copies) and without it (2731 copies), as well as different firefighting vehicles.
The index YA 328 means: Y — military vehicles, A — general type, 3 — payload in tonnes, 2 — the 2nd series (the 1st series is the prototype), 8 — number of wheels (spare wheels on the sides are also in count).
DAF YA 328 is fitted with a 5.5-liter 6-cylinder Hercules JXLD engine rated at 97 kW (132 hp) at 3200 rpm and 375 Nm at 1400 rpm. Gearbox is ZF, 5-speed manual. Overall dimensions — 6130x2400x2650 mm. Curb weight — 6000 kg, GVW — 9000 kg. Top speed — 82 kph. Range — 315 km.
