DAF » YA 318
Before the mass production of the military 3-ton DAF YA 328 started, DAF made 2 prototypes and 298 pre-production trucks under the name DAF YA 318. They featured 4.62 litre 6-cylinder Hercules JXC engine with an output of 75 kW (102 hp) and 285 Nm at 1400 rpm (YA328 had Hercules JXLD engine rated at 132 hp). Gearbox is 4-speed instead of a 5-speed of YA 328.
210 pre-production trucks (including 2 prototypes) were sent to the Dutch Army. 81 trucks made with tanker body (YF 318 version) for the US Air Forces. 9 tractors made for the Dutch oil company Bataafse Petroleum Maatschappij to use in Netherlands New Guinea. In the mid-50s, winches and pulling brackets were removed due to frequent fracture of the tow hooks, the car was then called “truck, 3 tons 12 v”. A part of the trucks were used in Harlem till the end of the 60s. Then most of YA 318s were sold via traders to private owners. Few chassis were then used to mount mobile cranes.
