MAZ » 7911 'Oplot-A'
In 1970, MAZ started development of a new 3rd generation range of offroad chassis called 'Oplot' to replace two models - MAZ 537 и MAZ 543. The second model became the base for the new range. The main feature is a new D12AN-650 V12 diesel with an updated fuel system and turbocharger. Output is 650 hp. Another new unit is a 4-speed gearbox from MAZ 547A which replaced the old one. The frame was reinforced.
MAZ 7911 'Oplot-A' is the base 20-ton long wheelbase 650 hp chassis with two cabins developed to mount special military bodies. Actually, it was an improved version of the MAZ 543. The first prototype was made in 1973. 2 years later it passed government tests and produced in small quantities till 1979. Fuel consumption - 80 liters per 100 km. Curb weight of the chassis - 21350 kg, GVW - 41.6 tonnes. Overall dimensions - 11520x3050x2670 mm. Fuel tanks capacity - 790 liters. Range - 925 km.
The mass production of the new 'Oplot' range was planned to be started by KZKT and MAZ, but never started. 'Oplot' trucks produced in small quantities till the mid-1980s.
