BAZ » 5937 / 5938 / 5939
In 1969, BAZ developed prototypes of a new range of military chassis BAZ-937/938/939. During the development their indexes recieved an additional number 5, and later in the serial production they become known as BAZ 5937, BAZ 5938 and BAZ 5939. These vehivles were almost completely unified with each other and were equipped with a rear-mounted four-stroke diesel engine 5D20B-300 V6 (15,9 liter, 300 hp) with a direct injection. Transmission was a 5-speed manual and two-speed transfer gearbox equipped with a built-in symmetric locking differential. Suspension is independent of all wheels.
Movement afloat was provided by two water-jets. Fuel tank with a capacity of 320 liters was placed on the left side in front of the rear wheel. The first vehicles had a slightly shorter hulls with a cropped front end and flat front panel. Later versions got an elongated sharp-nosed front end and additional triangular cabin windows to improve visibility. Maximum speed on a highway - 70 kph, on water - 8.0 kph. Fuel consumption - 40-42 liters per 100 km.
All three versions were a base for all types of self-propelled air defense missile system 9K33 "Wasp". The complex was allowed to hit low-flying targets at a speed of 500 m/s, at altitudes from 25 m to 5 km and distances of 10 km. It consisted of combat vehicle 9A33, TZM 9T217 to transportat of ammunition, reloading and emergency refueling of combat equipment. Own chassis was used for each type of machine.
BAZ-5937 was a base 7.5-tonne chassis for mounting equipment of 9A33 complex. It was equipped with a 5-place cabin. The various versions had a curb weight of from 10.7 to 11.4 tonnes. Its dimensions without special equipment - 9165x2782x1948 mm, range - 738 km.
BAZ-5939 was a chassis with a carrying capacity of 5.4 tonnes to accommodate TZM equipment with a crew of three, adapted for use with all types of complexes 9K33 "Wasp". It differed by an open hull with a sliding canopy cover of a cargo compartment. It had an additional gear to drive a generator, third receiver in a brake system and backup power take-off system to drive a hydraulic three-section telescopic crane. Curb weight - 10.6 tonnes, GVW - 16.3 tonnes, length - 9040 mm, height - 1930 mm, range - 738 km.
BAZ-5938 was a chassis with a carrying capacity of 6.6 tonnes for a support vehicle 9V210 with two habitable compartments for a crew of three. It served for field maintenance and minor repairs of launchers and all systems of 9K33 "Wasp" complex. This version looks different bacause of a higher roof of a completely closed body, which was placed a gas-turbine engine to drive special equipment. Curb weight - 10.2 tonnes, GVW - 17.1 tonnes. Overall length - 9090 mm, height - 2840 mm, range - 775 km. Serial production of the complex "Wasp" was stopped in 1990
