In 1965, the first special version of MAZ-538 was made by KZKT. This was a special military tractor KZKT-538DP with longer wheelbase (by 1.2 m, up to 4200 mm). Its curb weight was increased to 18.0 tonnes, length - up to 6980 mm, fuel consumption - up to 105 liters per 100 kilometers. One more operator was included to the crew of the machine. In the early 1980s, KZKT developed a second special version called KZKT 538DK with an additional PTO and cardan shafts to drive a trench machine TMK-2, mounted at the rear of the frame.

A bulldozer machine BKT-PK2 was based on KZKT-538DP and had a front blade, winch and a rear ripper-rooter to work on the toughest soils including frozen to a depth of 15 cm. Its maximum capacity was 120 m3 / h. Range was 800 km. Another special machine was PKT-2, capable to clear an area of ​​bushes, uproot stumps and felling trees with a diameter of up to 25 cm. Its maximum capacity was up to 160 m3/hour, curb weight - 23 t. TMK-2 was a rotary wheeled trench vehicle based on KZKT-538DK used to make military trenches of different profile with a depth of 1.1 - 1.5 m and 0, 9-1.5 m width. Its multi-bucket excavator equipment was driven by a power take-off gear.
