MAZ » 538
Using the experience of creating tractors MAZ-528 and MAZ-532, a more heavy and powerful tractor MAZ-538 (4x4) was developed. In 1963, the first two prototypes with a simple bulldozer equipment were made and passed state tests. The same year, all the documentation was transferred to KZKT. In 1964, a mass production of MAZ-538 was started on KZKT. The first vehicles made by KZKT had no differents from the prototypes and were also called as MAZ-538.
MAZ-538 was equipped with a four-stroke diesel engine D12A-375 V12 rated at 375 hp and hydromechanical transmission with locking torque converter, planetary 3-speed gearbox and transfer gearbox. The powertrain had a reverse device, allows you to move both directions with the same speed. There were an adjustable steering wheels, two instrument panels and 2 double-sided controls, located in the front and rear parts of a two-door all-steel cab with all-round visibility. Another original design feature was the front balance-wishbone suspension with hydropneumatic elastic elements. There was no rear suspension.
Wheelbase - 3000 mm, gauge - 2520 mm, overall dimensions - 5870x3120x3100 mm, ground clearance - 480 mm, curb weight - 16.5 tonnes, GVW - up to 19.5 tonnes, maximum speed - 45 kph, fuel consumption - 100 liters per 100 km, cruising range - 500 - 800 km.
