Autocar » DC series, U model
In 1975, Autocar Div. of White Trucks has added a line of extra-heavy-duty short BBC trucks for markets primarily in the Northeast (Maryland to Massachusetts) where high axle loads and "permit" vehicles are commonplace. Primary applications are dumps, mixers, refuse/compactors, demolition and block truck service where GVWs are 50,000 lb and higher or where extra heavy-duty axles, suspensions and frame are required for durability. Most notable features of the new model are: 94-in. BBC dimension; Fiberglass tilt hood/fenders; Improved maneuverability; and greater visibility.
This special package includes the above features, grill guard and extended bumper and rubber lip on the fenders. The new models are the result of a cooperative effort between White’s Northeastern Region and Autocar. The new models have a 94-in. BBC vs 122 in for the conventional. Wheel cuts of 35° arc retained even with flotation front tires — an important feature for city maneuverability. Models offered with the special package have all the features of the traditional Autocar rugged chassis and can be built on the same assembly line since only the cab and front end assemblies are different. The 6-in. cab offset (to the left) permits vertical engine installations and improves driver visibility.
The U special package was available for DC87, DC9364, DC9964, DC10364 and KK9364 models equipped with diesel engines only. Wheelbases variants are from 150 to 295 inches. The GVW is from 46000 to 81000 lbs.
