DAF » LF 2nd generation
At the same time with the presentation of an updated medium-range CF, DAF has shown retouched light model range LF. The updated LF trucks are equipped with a new four (FR) and six-cylinder (GR) engines PACCAR. 4.5-liter FR engines range includes versions with an output of 140, 160 and 185 hp, while 6.7 liters GR series - 224, 250 and 286 hp. All engines meet Euro 5 environmental standard, due to the use of SCR. Moreover, 160 hp engine is also available in EEV version (Enhanced Environmentally friendly Vehicle). As a result of increased volume of cylinders and using common rail system, the torque is increased by approximately 22%, compared to its predecessors with smaller volume. All engines installed on LF range, can be combined with manual or automatic six-speed gearbox AS Tronic (for the first time for the LF range). External changes are similar to the updated lineup CF, only a chrome strip on the grille has been added.
In 2010 at the Leyland factory in the UK began production of a hybrid truck DAF LF Hybrid, which is powered by a diesel engine or electric motor, fed by batteries, or from both sources immediately. Using a hybrid power unit can reduce fuel consumption and emissions by 10 - 20% depending on operating conditions. A hybrid vehicle weighing 12 tons is equipped with 4.5-litre diesel engine PACCAR FR 160 hp, certified in accordance with environmental standards EEV, and paired with an automatic six-speed gearbox Eaton. The electric motor is installed between the clutch and gearbox, and can operate as a generator, so when braking the released energy is stored in lithium-ion batteries, and then used for acceleration. The truck can drive about two kilometers using only electric power without the diesel engine, it is enough to move around in cities with a "green zones" prohibiting using of diesel engines.
