In 1976, the company revived the original Pioneer 1st low-budget design philosophy with a new price and value leader called Spartan/1. Similar in appearance to the original Pioneer III, the Spartan/1 was built on a Chevrolet forward-control chassis with TCM "control tower" cab. Standard power was a 427 cubic inch Chevy V8. To keep prices low, Spartan/1s were built in small batches with limited options.
