Volvo started producing FL and FMX trucks with crew cab

Specially developed for extreme operations such as rescue and fire services, the Volvo FL and FMX in four-door crew cab guise can seat up to six people. Intended for gross vehicle weights of up to 16 tons, the FL crew cab is offered with a low two-step entry and doors that open 90 degrees for easy access. Even this very utilitarian variant of the FL can be had with the best powertrain options Volvo Trucks has to offer at the present moment. Powerplants range from the D5K Euro 6 turbo diesel with 210 or 240 hp, as well as the D8K unit with 250 or 280 horsepower.

In terms of transmission options, customers can opt for a six or nine-speed manual, as well as a six-speed I-Sync automated tranny or a full-auto that can be mated only to the D8K oil burner. However, the toughest Volvo truck money can buy is the manufacturer's range of off-road trucks dubbed FMX (Forward control Medium Xtreme). Available in 4x2 or 4x4 configurations, the FMX's cabin is air-suspended and features an easy-to-clean interior thanks to the sea of vinyl upholstery inside.

In terms of firepower, the Volvo FMX Crew chassis cab is slightly more potent and dependable than the third-gen FL. Starting with a D11 Euro 6 compliant turbo diesel with 330 horsepower sent to the wheels via a nine or 14-speed stick shift, the FMX can also be had in 370, 410 and 450 horsepower variants. Furthermore, the I-Shift automated gearbox can also be ticked from the options list, together with another highlight gearbox coming in the form of the Powertronic fully-automatic unit that slightly increases fuel efficiency.
