Western Star unveils new sleeper, interior and naming

Western Star Trucks has added a new 34-inch Stratosphere sleeper to its product line; and also unveiled new interior options and a new naming convention for its vehicles at the Mid-America Trucking Show 2011. Available on the 4800 and 4900 models, the new sleeper provides additional headroom and more storage space to offer the look and feel of a day cab while providing sleeping space to allow drivers to stay in compliance with hours-of-service regulations.

“Western Star customers appreciate the superior craftsmanship, premium quality and comfort of our Stratosphere sleepers, and our latest addition offers yet another customization option,” said Ann Demitruk, director of marketing, Western Star. “With the addition of the 34-in. Stratosphere, Western Star continues to offer one of the broadest lines of sleepers in its class.”

New interior color and storage options, plus ample room between the front seats to allow easy access to the sleeper portion of the cab are among the features of the Stratosphere. The company also announced enhanced interiors for all its truck models. Customizable compartments and shelving and brighter color options are among the choices. The new choices include a new interior door with door panels for log books and maps; flexible storage space with movable shelving and larger cabinets; premium color choices including smoky mountain grey, pacific forest green, maple leaf red and prairie buckskin; easy to clean vinyl roof panels; and an electronic interface prep package with factory-installed mounting and power connections to enable customers to choose their own applications such as navigation systems and Bluetooth-enabled cell phones.

One other change customers will start seeing is the naming of Western Star trucks. The company has revamped its naming process to group its vehicles into four distinct models: the 4700, 4800, 4900, and 6900. All axle configurations are represented and include the set-forward (SF), set-back (SB) and twin-steer (TS).
