In June 2002, the Mersedes-Benz presented the first prototypes of bonneted military tactical model S2000, which was made of serial production trucks units. The new range should be used in armored forces of new NATO members, as well as to replace the previous generation of tactical vehicles. The new range included trucks with a payload of 4-12 tons and wheel configurations 4x4 and 6x6 (model from S1823A to S2633A). S2000 range was equipped with in-line 6-cylinder diesel engine with an output of 230-326 hp, 9-speed gearbox, extended 3-place sleeper cab with roof hatch, brackets for hand weapons and boxes of ammunition, developed together with the British company Mayflower. The trucks were produced on the Hungarian factory Raba.
