The new series is known as the U1000 / U1200 / U1300 / U1400 / U1550 / U1700 / U1800 / U2150 / U2450. The first model, which has been presented, was the "424" with a 2650 mm wheelbase and a new cabin with a rectangular front mask. Power of the engine on the "424/U95" or "U1000" model with a payload of 2.7 tons has been increased to 95 hp. They differ by the hood, without a front edge. The heavy series "425" is represented by the 120 hp model "U120", later renamed to "U1200". The "416" series firstly has been presented as a 110 hp "U1100". Then it was a base for more powerful models "U1200", "U1300", "U1500" and "U1700" with a wheelbase of 2650 mm and total weight is up to 12 tons. These trucks were used a 6-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine "OM366A/LA" (5958 cm3) with an output of 125-170 hp. In 1983 there models were offered as the "U1250" and "U1750" with an extended to 3250 mm wheelbase. In the late 80's the range included 15 basic chassis (model from "U650" to "U2150"). By that time about 400 thousand "Unimog" have been produced, and annual production was 7 thousand vehicles. In 90-ies the main heavy duty range consisted of 6 basic models: "U1200", "U1400", "U1600", "U1800", "U2100" and "U2400" with GVW from 7.5 to 14.0 tons with wheelbases 2650 and 2810 mm, equipped with different versions of OM 366 engine with an output of 125-240 hp and the transmission, which provides 8 forward and 8 reverse gears. The long wheelbase models (3250 mm) had indices from "U1250" to "U2450". All the trucks were adapted to work in cities and on rough terrain. They were equipped with 2-circuit brake system, enhanced corrosion protection, retarder, two PTO shafts and multi-point selection of compressed air or hydraulic fluid to drive a wide range of attachments. There was also a special model "U2450L" (6x6) with a payload of 7 tons.
