In 1979 MAN began co-operation with Volkswagen company and designed the middle duty range under the MAN-VW brand. The first series "G" included five basic models (from "6.90F" and "10.136F") with payload 2.7-6.5 t with a cab over the engine and diesel MAN series "D02" (3791 and 5687 cm3, 90 and 136 hp). The chassis were designed and produced at VW factory. Since 1985, the trucks were produced at the old Bussing plant in Salzgitter, which is considerably reduced stake of VW in this agreement.
