In the fall of 2018, Kenworth presented the new W990 — the replacement for the legendary model range W900. According to representatives of the company, it was extremely difficult to make the successor for this model, because it became so successful and have been producing since 1961! In fact, Kenworth will continue producing of W900L and W990 in parallel. The new model will completely replace the old range only several years later.
Kenworth W990 is designed to maximize the efficiency of long-haul and regional hauls. The model is available in day cab, 40-inch flat top, and 52-inch and 76-inch mid-roof sleeper configurations. BBC of the biggest one is 131.5 inches, or 3340 mm.
The new W990 uses the same 2.1-meter wide cab that already is installed to T680 and T880. The most luxury version is the Limited Edition, which features black and blue leather trim combined with glossy elements on the doors and dashboard.
The equipment includes a 180-degree swiving passenger seat, a rotating table for two and a refrigerator. Kenworth's audio system includes a 320-watt amplifier, 10-inch subwoofer and 8 speakers. 28-inch flat-panel TV mounted on a swivel mount. There is a place for a wardrobe, several drawers for small things and a large space under the lower bunk in the sleeping compartment.
Kewnorth W990 is equipped with an inline 12.9L PACCAR MX-13 with a power range from 405 to 510 hp, which works with a 12-speed automated transmission. Alternatively, the truck can be fitted with a Cummins X15 engine with a capacity of 450 to 605 hp. The choice of gearboxes is also extensive and includes manual and automatic transmisstions by Eaton and Allison with the number of speeds from 5 to 18.
