ZIL » 2E169G
Development of the new generation of cabover trucks on ZIL lead to the creation of two main models – the two-axle ZIL-169 and the tri-axle ZIL-170. The 3-axle model became the base for the first Kamaz truck, but the 2-alxe range with a payload capacity of 6 tonnes (GCVW - 12 tonnes) was considered a worthy and promising replacement for ZIL-130.
In addition to the new cabover layout, the new trucks featured a new diesel engine. According to the project, the trucks should be fitted with YaMZ U-8 7.3 L 160 hp diesel. There were also two-disc clutch and a five-speed gearbox with a front divider.
The cars of both ranges were to receive the same cabs, all-metal side platforms, diskless wheels, a two-circuit braking system with energy storage, a new lighting equipment meeting international requirements, and much more.
The long-wheelbase prototype ZIL 2E169G was built in 1969 for factory tests. In general, it was consistent with the original design, but because of problems with the preparation of the diesel engine with the permission of the ministry, it used a 6-liter petrol engine ZIL-130 with a capacity of 150 horsepower. This was completely permissible, as during the factory tests it was required to check the general conformity of the new vehicle design to the operational properties.
