BAZ » 5921 / 5922
A new 3-axle amphibious chassis BAZ-5921 and BAZ-5922 were a future development of the first range of machines 5937/5939 and were made for a new rocket complex. It called 9K79 "Point" and consisted of two main systems - launcher 9P129 and loader 9T218. In 1973-1974, the rocket complex passed state tests and started to use by the army in 1976.
In parallel with the creation of the rocket complex, BAZ factory began developing a floating hull chassis BAZ-5921 with a 4-seater cabin for a launcher and BAZ-5922 for a transporation and loading machine with 2-place cabin. The new vehicles based on rear engined chassis 5937/5939 of a rocket compex "Wasp", but the engine was moved to the center of the chassis. The unified BAZ 5921/5922 chassis had the same transmission, suspension, braking system, water jets, electrical equipment and a set of additional equipment. Even the engine was almost the same - 300-horsepower diesel engine was marked as 5D20K-300 and had a more powerful cooling system with two radiators and a starting preheater of increased power. Mass production began in May 1974.
BAZ-5921 with a payload of 6.3 tonnes and a crew of four people was a rocket launcher. This version differed by a wedge-shaped front end, small windshield and narrow triangular side windows with a bulletproof glass. A lifting ramp with rails for launching a missile was mounted in the rear compartment. The rocket was placed horizontally during transportation. Overall dimensions - 9486x2890x2375 mm.
BAZ-5922 with a payload of 6.8 tonnes was a transportation and loading vehicle. It differed from BAZ 5921 by a modified body shape with a shorter control section for a crew of two and extended rear open compartment with a canopy top. 2 horizontally placed rockets 9M79 were placed in the rear compartment. There was also a two-piece hydraulic crane for reloading rockets from transport vehicles to the launcher. Overall dimensions - 9470x2890x2440 mm.
