KZKT » 932A 'Zauralec' / 3E932 / 4E932
In 1967-68, KZKT designed an updated version of its uniaxle trucks KZKT-932 Zauralec and made new trailers for them. The new vehicles was called KZKT-932A ("Zauralets-932A"). Two prototypes were made: KZKT 4E932 with an electric transmission and KZKT 3E932 with mechanically driven wheels of the semitrailer. The first prototype was tested with a special two-axle semitrailer, while the second - with a 40-tonne low-bed semitrailer. Both vehicles were completely designed and built by KZKT.
The major improvements: simplified design, weight reducing, easier access to engine and other units, and improve reliability. After factory tests the version 3E932 with mechanically driven wheels of the semitrailer showed lack of reliability and was withdrawn from further development, while the "electric" version 4E932 was sent to goverment tests held till May 8, 1969.
The most interesting feature of KZKT 4E932 was its electric transmission and design of an active semi-trailer. The chassis and electric drive was unified with MAZ-537. An electric generator DK-512A 85 kW was installed on the tractor. It was driven by a take-off power unit, which send electricity to 75 kW electric engine, mounted on the trailer. Ground clearance - 540 mm. Curb weight - 13.3 tonnes. GCWV - 52 tonnes. Wheelbase -14,700 mm, overall dimensions - 16040x3094x2960 mm. KZKT production facilities was not allowed to start manufacturing of these models.
