Prototypes KrAZ E6316 and 5E6316 used new designed frames with Z-shaped cross-section that provides excellent compatibility of a front axle, cab and powertrain. Another feature was a new more spacious cabin, which was supposed to be used on future commercial models. The cabin was shifted by 70 mm to the left to make driver's position more comfortable. These 2 prototypes had a new front suspension with original shock absorbers and springs. Since March 1985 to April 1986 the prototypes have been fully tested in all climate zones. The total mileage of all vehicles was 226,000 kilometers.
