KrAZ » E253
The prototypes of the first generation proved to be too ambitious and difficult for the domestic auto industry, costly and equally unreliable. So in 1964, Kraz made a second generation. The range consisted of a 9-ton truck E253 and combination of tractor E259 with an active semitrailer E834.
They were equipped with an experimental 310-horsepower diesel engine YaMZ-238N with a turbocharger and a more reliable manual 8-speed gearbox YaMZ-238, as well as a power steering, independent suspension and a tires pressure control system. They also got an original more spacious all-metal cabin. Its design was very similar to a cabin of GAZ-66. Wheelbase is 5200 mm, curb weight is 11.5 tonnes and maximum speed - 71 kph.
Factory tests started in May 1964 were ended in June 1965, and then modified machines were re-tested in 1967. Result of the test was perfect, but due to many of original and difficult parts the price of these trucks was too expensive.
