American LaFrance » Type 5
In 1910, after 8 years of research and development, American LaFrance introduced the Type 5 motorized apparatus. This design, including its 70 horsepower "T" head motor, was entirely unique. Over a 1 year period, 48 Type 5 engines were built. The one saved till now double tank combination model was purchased originally by Reading, Pennsylvania in June, 1911 for the "Liberty Engine Company". The Type 5 was replaced in the product line by the Type 10 in 1911, which was a slightly modified Type 5.
