Schield Bantam
In 1930, two brothers Vern and Wilbur Sheilds founded a small farm company that was engaged in growing limes. Business was weak, so Wilbur got a job, and Vern continued to engage in limes, but soon discovered a talent for mechanics. In 1942, he had already built his first excavator on a truck chassis, and was even able to begin its production.
In 1933, Wilbur returned to the company, and in 1946 the company Schield Bantam moved to new workshops in Waverly. The company's products helped a lot to restore the economy of the war-torn America. By 1956, Bantam had become one of the leaders in the market for the production of such machines, but in 1963 it was purchased by the Koehring Company. The new owner continues using Bantam brand name till 1982.
