Bell added the B30E 4×4 model to its range

Bell Equipment introduced a new articulated dump truck Bell B30E 4×4 at the Intermat 2018. While it is listed as a prototype, its mass production should be started in 2019.

The B30E 4×4 is designed for use in small and medium sized quarries, where it can be an excellent alternative to triaxial models. Being maximally unified with the B30E 6×6, the 2-axle truck provides increased maneuverability, less tire wear and road damage.

“Many customers in the quarry and aggregates business do not need 6×6 capabilities,” said Tristan du Pisanie, Bell product marketing manager, during an interview on the Intermat show floor. “They have well-maintained haul roads and they do not strip their own overburden. What they need is a reliable, economic hauler that gives them the flexibility to work in weather conditions and saves wear on the tires.”

Of course, this version has its disadvantages. For example, the load on the rear axle will be much larger than the triaxial model. The front part of the Bell B30E 4×4 is identical to the 6×6 version, while the rear uses components from the B40 and B50 dumpers. It is driven by a Mercedes-Benz turbocharged engine with an output of 246 kW (330 hp), which works in tandem with an Allison 6-speed automatic transmission.

The B30E 4×4 has the same lifting capacity as the triaxial model – 30 tonnes. The rear axle is designed for 36 tonnes and wears Michelin 29.5R25 tires. The B30E 4×4 has been in field trial with a German construction and materials processing firm since October 2017, replacing a Bell 25-ton truck.
