Ural 6×4 with MAN TGS cab
This is a one-off experimental Ural built in 2017: a road-going 6×4 truck with drive on the rear axles only, fitted with a cab from the German MAN TGS. It was meant as a test for a new cabover road family from the Ural Automotive Plant in Miass, and it was never put into production. The truck stayed little known until it was photographed at the plant’s open day in September 2019.
The MAN TGS cab carries a Ural badge in the grille, in place of the old cab used on earlier road Urals.
The plan was to buy cab modules from MAN for a new family of non-all-wheel-drive road trucks. It was dropped reportedly because US sanctions on the Russian partner made new supply contracts impossible, though the cause has not been officially confirmed.
A Ural marketing head, Andrey Sobyanin, said in 2019 that the plant was developing “a family of non-all-wheel-drive road trucks with a new cab-over cab”, with completion planned for 2020–2021.
The production trucks continued to be equipped with a modernized Iveco TurboStar-type. The MAN TGS truck was one of several experiments with alternative cabs.
