Kuhn Schweiz
Switzerland: 2000 - p.t.
Kuhn Schweiz AG is the Swiss company of the Kuhn Group, an Austrian family business founded in 1973 by Günter Kuhn in Eugendorf near Salzburg. The group became a general agent for Komatsu construction machinery in 1994 and describes itself as one of Europe’s largest Komatsu dealers. Kuhn Schweiz was established in 2000, when the group took over Küpfer, the Swiss importer of Komatsu machines.

The company is headquartered in Heimberg in the canton of Bern, where it moved into a new company building in 2019. A second site in Lommis (canton of Thurgau) serves eastern Switzerland and the Zurich area, and a new site there was opened in 2014. Kuhn Schweiz sells, rents and services construction machinery. It also supplies spare parts, runs a repair workshop and operates a training center.

The main product lines are Komatsu earthmoving machines, Powerscreen crushing and screening equipment, and Sennebogen material handlers. The range also includes machines from Faresin, Magni, FRD and XCentric. In 2020 the company had 85 employees and a turnover of CHF 60 million. For comparison, the whole Kuhn Group then had 53 branches, six production sites, 1,600 employees and a turnover of EUR 645 million.

Kuhn Schweiz is not a truck manufacturer, but it has built its own vehicle. In 2017–2018 it converted a Komatsu HD 605-7 quarry dump truck from diesel to battery-electric drive, together with Swiss universities and partners. The truck, named “Lynx”, has worked at the Vigier Ciment quarry since 2018 and appeared in the Guinness World Records 2022 book as the world’s largest battery-powered dump truck.
