In 2002 a new medium duty range was introduced. It came to replace the old LPN series. The new trucks received cabins from the LPN range, but got a new front grille and bumper with round headlights. The first shown version was 1420 with the OM366 LA engine developed 211 hp. A little later the trucks began to equip with the electronically controlled 170 hp OM904 LA engine. This version called 1318. In 2003, heavier versions were presented - 1720, 1728 and 2423B with the wheel configuration 8x4. In 2004, the range was widened by 6x2 model 1728 with lifted rear axle and tractor 1728S.
