Sports version of the Atego model took a part in the European Truck Racing Championship for the first time in 1998. These trucks were equipped with 11.5-liter V6 engine with rated at 1496 hp. Top speed is limited at 160 km/h. In 1998, Ludovic Faure has won the championship on such truck. In 2000, Atego finished second. In 2001 Mercedes Benz withdrew from truck racing.
