In 2002, to replace Unimog 424-435 family was created a new heavy army range, which included models U3000, U4000 and U5000 (4x4) with 2-5 t payload, a new front mask, 4-cylinder diesel engines with turbocharger and output of 150, 177 and 218 hp, 8-speed manual gearbox with automatic control and centralized control air pressure system. There are versions with armored cabins.
