At the end of the war, having casualties on all fronts, the War Department decided to tap the Daimler-Benz concern to produce 3-ton Opel Blitz 3.6-36S trucks with a simplified cabin. Of the more than 70 thousand of these vehicle Daimler Benz produced only 3,5 thousand in Mannheim under the name L701. These cars were the first post-war trucks, which came in the summer of 1945 to complete of allied fleet. L701 trucks were equipped with 6-cylinder petrol engines with power of 68 hp.
