By the end of 70-ies the military range of Mercedes-Benz included only several modified commercial light and medium models. The most common was a 5-ton model 1017 with a 6-cylinder diesel engine OM352 with an output of 168 hp and 5-speed gearbox. Differences between the military versions of civilian were: 24V electrical system, low flatbed body, and a hatch in the roof of a cab. The cabin had a place to store personal equipment of a crew. There were 4x2 or all-wheel-drive versions. Earlier versions had a wooden body, but since 1979 all trucks were fitted with a metal cargo platform. The 1017 model was used to transport goods and people, as a radio truck, tanker and fire engine. The range also included the 1213 model with the same engine, but derated to 130 hp. In addition to transportation works, these trucks were used as training vehicles, mobile offices, mobile x-ray machines and so on. The 1419S model was a truck tractor with 192 hp OM401 diesel engine and 8-speed gearbox. Heavier version 2626K (6x4) was used as a flatbed truck with or without crane, and as a tanker. Engine was OM402 with a power of 256 hp.
