Mercedes-Benz » T2 series II
In 1986 a second generation of light Mercedes-Benz trucks - the T2 range has been presented. But the producing of the old T2 range (1968 year) was still continued. So, the old model was called T2 alt (alt - "Old"), and the new T2 neu. The new T2 models received indices 510, 507D, 508D, 511D, 609D, 709D, 711D, 714D, 809D, 811D, 814D. The first digit indicates a rounded total mass in tones. The second and third - horsepower divided by 10. The trucks could be offered in many versions, ranging from a van or bus and ending with a tractor truck. There were not so much choices of engines for the T2 neu model. There was only one gasoline engine - the M102 (2,0 l, 105 hp). The diesel engines are: atmospheric OM601 (2,3 l, 79 hp) and OM364 (3,97 l, 86 hp); and turbocharged OM364 A (3,97 l, 105 hp) and OM364 LA (3,97 l, 105-140 hp). The lst engine has an intercooler and meets Euro 2 standards. All engines are four-cylinder. Models T2 neu usually were equipped with manual 4- or 5-speed transmission. The buses and postal vans were used often hydromechanical gearboxes (models W4 A028 and W4 B 035). Suspension, as well as its predecessor, is on leaf springs. Stabilizer bars are installed in front and rear of the chassis. Brakes are hydraulic type with a vacuum booster. Steering can be with a booster or without it, depending on the modification.
