In 1969, the Mercedes Benz have bought a controlling stake of Rheinstahl-Henschel and added to own range a model from Henschel company. In 1970-72 two heavy trucks families "1626/2226" and "1632/2232" were presented, as a result of development of new V-shaped diesel engines with the company MAN. The trucks were equipped with OM 402 V8 (12 760 cm3, 256 hp) and OM403 V10 (15 953 cm3, 320 hp) diesel engines. The base for all-wheel drive dump trucks "LAPK 1632" (4x4) and "LAPK2632" (6x6) with a payload of 7 and 14 m with a 6-speed gearbox ZF and 2-circuit air brake system, was late Henschel cabover trucks.
