In 1996 the LK range has been upgraded. The design has been changed and the trucks received new engines and transmissions. The new 4-cylinder engines of 900 series have been added to a 4 - and 6-cylinder diesel engines of 300 series (volume 4 and 6 liters, 105 - 240 hp). The new engines have a working volume of 4.25 liters and an output of 122, 136 or 170 hp. Using of electronics and fuel injection equipment with pump-injector allowed to reduce fuel consumption by 6%, emissions and noise. ECO Power inscription clearly indicates what type of engine is used on the truck. Transmission is mechanical 5-, 6- and 7-speed or an automatic 4- and 5-speed. In 1998 the Atego range replaced the LK.
