Volvo » Vera
A few days after the presentation of the autonomous car Volvo 360c concept, the concern unveiled the autonomous electric truck Vera, which does not even have a cab. It is planned that in the near future such trucks will be used in logistics centers and ports.
Volvo Vera is equipped with a fully electric transmission, which is almost identical to the conceptual electric truck Volvo, presented at the beginning of the year. The company does not report the impact of the powerplant but its output should be around 185 kW. It is powered by lithium-ion batteries with a capacity of 100 to 300 kWh, which will provide a range of up to 300 km.
Volvo confirmed that Volvo Vera can be used with any of standard semi-trailers with pull loads of up to 32 tons. Volvo believes that vehicles such as Vera will prove to be particularly useful in industries with a heavy reliance on cargo transportation.
“Since we use autonomous vehicles with no exhaust emissions and low noise, their operation can take place at any time of day or night. The solution utilises existing road infrastructure and load carriers, making it easier to recoup costs and allowing for integration with existing operations,” Vice President Autonomous Solutions at Volvo, Mikael Karlsson said.
Volvo Vera will constantly connect to a cloud service and transport management center, which monitors all truck systems, including its position on the road, load content, service requirements, and other parameters.
