General Motors unveils the new medium-duty trucks Chevrolet Silverado 4500HD, 5500HD and 6500HD at the NTEA Work Truck Show in Indianapoli. These Class 4, 5 and 6 trucks will replace the Chevy Kodiak and GMC TopKick models, which were discontinued in 2009. That puts the latest Chevy trucks back in direct competition with the Ford F-450/F-550 and F-650/F-750, and the Ram 4500/5500 Tradesman.
Despite the fact that the main buyers of the HD series will be commercial users, they’ve been designed to be as consumer-friendly as possible. Among the equipment is the 4G LTE internet, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, as well as wireless mobile phone charger.
Under the hood is a 6.6-liter Duramax with a power of 350 hp and monstrous torque of 700 lb-ft. The engine is connected to the Allison transmission with rear or four wheel drive. There is a choice of a short and twin-row cab.
