At the commercial vehicles fair COMTRANS-2017 in Moscow, KAMAZ showcased a prototype of a new heavy duty tractor called KAMAZ 54901. It is fitted with the K5 cabin, developed by Daimler AG.
The K5 cabin is used on the latest generation of Mercedes-Benz Actros, which was produced since 2011. The prototype got its own design of the front mask, but both of other cabin panels are similar with the Actros. This cabin has a large interior space with 1980 mm internal height and 2270 mm wide. The K5 is one of the best in the range, thanks to the German manfacturer.
KAMAZ 54901 got a P6 diesel engine, developed by the Swiss company Liebherr. It has a capacity of 12 liters and is avaliable in power versions from 380 to 550 hp. Gearbox is automated ZF Traxton.
KAMAZ plans to start producing of the 54901 in 2019 with the K5 cabin to be produced on a new factory 'DK Rus' (a joint venture by Daimler AG and KAMAZ). The new KAMAZ is going to be cheaper by 15-20% then Mercedes-Benz Actros.
