In 1973, MAZ made a prototype of the MAZ 547A with the frame made of aluminum. The new chassis was 900 kg lighter, than the version with a steel frame. It successfully passed factory tests (distance more than 15000 km), but engineers couldn't fix an equipment of a missile complex and future development of the MAZ 547B project was stopped.
