MAZ-7908 - an experimental chassis with a carrying capacity of 35 tonnes, designed specifically for the installation of the missile system "Speed". Its development began in February 1984, and in September the first prototype entered the pre-production tests. It based on a rocket multiaxial chassis MAZ-7916 of "Pioneer-3" complex.
The chassis had a wheelbase of 7800 mm (2300 + 2800 + 2700 mm) and was equipped with a multifuel V-58-7 V12 engine rated at 710 hp, hydromechanical transmission with planetary 4-speed gearbox, and several reduction gears. The engine compartment was placed between two cabins. The left cabin had two places, while the right one - only one.Curb weight of the chassis - 24 tonnes, GVW - 60 tonnes. Overall dimensions - 13790x3385x2095 mm, track of all wheels - 2700 mm. Ground clearance under the axles - 475 mm, the minimum turning radius - 15 m. Maximum speed - 40 kph. Fuel consumption - 150 liters per 100 km, range - 400 km.
Five copies of MAZ-7908 were made untill 1986. The first prototype used by the factory, on the last one with a 65-meter mast a pilot antenna-feeder device was mounted. Other 3 chassis were used for mounting a missile system 15P666 "Speed". But when the USA was signed the INF Treaty, it put an end to further work on the complex "Speed».
