BAZ » 930 / 931
In 1961 BAZ presented its first own model - a four-axle 10 tonnes flatbed truck BAZ-930 (8x8). The prototype was built on a ZIL-135 chassis and had a welded frame, two petrol engines ZIL-375 rated at 180 hp each, independent suspension of all wheels and extreme wide tires 1200x500-508. BAZ 930 got an experimental automatic hydromechanical transmission, created by NAMI for "Ural-375" truck. The cabin with three windshields, front dash and some other parts were made of fiberglass. The tests of BAZ-930 took place on October 19. A lot of defects were found during these tests, while the worstest unit was the geatbox.
In 1962, a long wheelbase version BAZ-931 was built. In fact BAZ-931 was an entirely new design with a cabin of the BAZ 930 and spaced pairs of front and rear axles. It was equipped with a tubular central frame onboard power transmission system and an independent hydropneumatic suspension with units of MIG 15 jet fighter. BAZ 931 was not good and did not pass the tests.
