BAZ » 5947
In 1979, BAZ developed a Soviet only 7-tonen army chassis BAZ-5947 (6x6) with an original layout with two front steered wheels, combined into a 4 wheel boogie, and a single rear axle. It was a shortened 3-axle version of an amphibian BAZ-6944 (8x8). A cabin for a crew of four was located in front end and had three wide windscreens and an entrance through a hatch in the roof.
The engine was located behind the cab. It was a 400 hp diesel UTD-25. The transmission consisted of a single-stage torque converter and manual 5-speed gearbox. BAZ 5947 had two fuel tanks with a capacity of 300 liters each and three bilge pumps with electric drive (one in the cab and two in the cargo compartment). Curb weight 15.0 tonnes, GVW - 22.4 tonnes. Overall length - 10.7 m, ground clearance - 480 mm, range - 1318 km.
