ZIL » E167
This large and spectacular 360-hp three-axle offroad vehicle was designed for the Ministry of Gas Industry of the USSR. Zil E167 based on a four-axle army chassis ZIL-135L with a reworked frame. The only prototype of E167 was built on the last day of 1962, and in January next year it was sent to factory tests, which lasted until March 1965.
Two 180 hp engines ZIL-375 were installed in the rear. They worked with two automatic transmissions from ZIL-135L. The 1st and last axles were steerable. ZIL E167 had a tire pressure control system, 10-ton winch, shielded 12-volt electrical equipment, tires 21.00 - 28 with a diameter of 1.8 m from MAZ 529E tractor and two fuel tanks 900 liters capacity. According to customer requirements, the prototype got a 10-place body made of fiberglass with a 4-place cabin. During the three years test, it proved its high offroad ability which was better than all kinds of Soviet wheeled vehicles. Maximum speed on a highway - 75 kph. After reviewing these results, the Ministry of Defense was planned to order two machines for their own purposes, but did not manage to build a second prototype.
