This range of three-axle AWD prototypes ZIL-132 was created since 1959 and consisted of a bonneted and cabover prototypes included an amphibian. The conception was to use the on-board transmission with differential lock, three equally spaced pairs of wheels, thin-walled tires with a large diameter and a smooth bottom. To speed up the production process all the vehicles planned to equipped with standardized components of new truck ZIL-131.
ZIL-132 was a prototype of a bonneted truck with a cab, front mask and body on ZIL-131, built on 23 February 1960. It was equipped with an original frame and a smooth bottom. There was no suspension. A gasoline engine ZIL-375 V8 rated at 180 hp was mounted in front of the vehicle under the hood. It was combined with a very complex transmission, consisted of a manual 5-speed gearbox from ZIL-E130 prototype, modified 2-speed transfer case from ZIL-157 and another original transfer case with side differential and pneumatic locking mechanism with a remote control.
Wheelbase is 2600+2600 mm. Overal dimensions - 7100x2550x2700 mm. Highway payload - 4.5 tonnes. Curb weight- 6480 - 7380 kg depending on type of tires, maximum weight - 8980 - 9880 kg. The ground clearance under the floor is up to 580 mm. Turning radius - 11.5 m, Maximum speed 67 - 70 kph. Fuel consumption - 55 l/100 km. p>
Factory tests of ZIL-132 began in February 1960 and held sporadically until the autumn of 1962. In March 1961, this prototype was equipped with an automatic transmission of ZIL-135E, a new splitter and a van to install an equipment. Later the further works of ZIL-132 was suspended. The only prototype was destroyed by fire in September 1962.
