KrAZ » 6E6316 "Syberia"
The most radical solution to the problem of the placement of a power unit on a cabover prototype led to the birth of a new model 6E6316 with even more powerful 420-horsepower engine YaMZ-8425. Note that the new 3-place cabin had its own original design and could be additionally equipped with hinged removable armor metal sheets. The windshield consisted of three armored parts. At the same time on the real prototypes the armor was replaced by 6 mm aluminum imitation.
KrAZ 6E6316 was not the only prototype in this range. A 16-tonnes chassis KrAZ-6E63161 was also made. The prototypes of the new generation were tested in different regions of the country and often drew an attention of local residents. That's why the factory placed the words "Siberia" on the front dash, which at first mistakenly gave the status of official labeling.
Tests of the third generation of prototypes were finished in the summer of 1988. By the time the requirements for such vehicles had been changed significantly, and further development under this project was pointless. Despite this, the factory engineers tried to save their baby, creaed three combinations of vehicles for future test.
