KrAZ » 3E6315
In February 1976, the Council of Ministers published a secret decree about the development a radically new heavy duty range of army trucks. In 1978, KrAZ developed a draft design of the new vehicles, and in 1981 it became the main company for future work under the project called "Discovery". At the end of the next year, KrAZ presented several versions of the new trucks. The base 3-axle version received an index 6315, while 8x8 version was called - 6316. In addition, the letter E (experimental) and the number was added in front of the index.
All the prototypes were equipped with a multi-fuel engine YaMZ-8425. It could work on diesel, gasoline and kerosene mixes, as well as propellants. It was rated at 360hp and torque of 1400 Nm. The engine was paired with a new 9-speed manual gearbox YaMZ-202. KrAZ-3E6315 had a front axle suspension similar to a serial KrAZ-260. However, the load on this axle was significantly higher than KrAz-260 due to its increased load capacity, thereby deteriorated controllability of the vehicle, increased vibration. The cabin was similar to serial made one, but specially modified. It had special 12 mm front windshield and side windows. The rear wall of the cab has no windows and was reinforced. p>
